Golden Shellback? Never heard of that one...I guess im a pollywog too, never crossed the equator, but then again, I was in the marines..

I'm a Golden Shellback :) USS Missouri, 1986 Shakedown cruise...Golden Shellback is crossing the equator *AND* the 180th meridian at the same time

As a funny side note for fellow squids, one of our BT's was always in trouble and getting on MP duty (mopping, cleaning heads, etc)
He was always cheerful about it and when asked why, he'd reply 'They can't take away my birthday" Some of the officers got wind of this so they decided to take the wind out of his sails...they steamed in circles for a day and finally crossed the date line...right at midnight
Shoulda seen his face when he was told...

For you non Navy types, when you cross the int'l dateline travelling west, you lose a day...since we crossed at midnight, he didn't even get 1 minute of his birthday :)

Oh my GOD! Why.. that's just EVIL.. Jeeziz, took away the man's birthday.. and brilliant, too.

I'd forgotten of the tale of the Golden Shellback, you fellas are the stuff of old sailor lore! Same with.. I believe it's the Emerald Shellback? At 0/0?

I've heard of the 'blue-noses', but never met one. ;) (Not much call for WESPAC bluenose, I hear tell.)

I hope this post helped you in someway, I hit dead end after dead end. Whats the problems with the shrimpy?

A couple of odd black spots and lack of gusto so far. As far as I was informed, it seem to come on rather quickly. I don't have a camera, so I was looking for something similar to launch from.

I know I read about that anemone here somewhere, just cant find the post again.

Anyway this post is informative

Nope Worse. When I got there an NIS investigation into Drug sales was just ending.

Here is a hint. They wear Red Patches, Live (or did live) by the beach and are now part of 1st support BN (at least that is what they were talking about calling it before I left) at camp pendleton

For my last duty I was stuck with S3 and BEGGED and PLEADED to be sent out on Ops but my MSgt would not let me go unless The Sgt Maj let him go. As you can guess Sgt Maj never let him go. I was prety close to being able to EAS in Korea. Garrison Sucks

That Sucks. You can get into ALOT more special training going out with a MEU than you would have access too in the rear with the gear. I attended advanced Machine Gun School with big MAW 3 times. Trained for TRAP 2 times, Helo Egress, and just missed a seat for SEAR School (I really wanted that one) I got out becuase that would not give me a waiver for interogator interprater school, and I stuck to my guns too long (My GT was 131 so I was more than qualified minus one stripe)

They proly sent the MSSG/MEU guys out becuase they had already Been through SOC qual and knew what to do.

the Line companies go through SOC qual...F* the MSSG...im not a grunt..id hate to do some of the stuff you did..i was with Light Armored Reconaissance and Recon was at my camp too...Ive done some of the stuff with them..way too intense...I was gonna LAT move into Counter Intel..trust me im pretty smart too thats why i was a TOW tech and not a grunt...no offense i met some pretty smart grunts and couldnt figure out why they were grunts? I EASed cuz i was tired of the Bureacratic B.S. I never made NCO cuz of a stupid impossilbe to achieve without sucking someones ass cutting score..i had a reenlistment code of RE1A so i had no bad marks or misconduct, i was just F'd over....heres a little story...the douche bags that worked on the LAV's, the mechs, most were promoted to NCO within their first 6months to a year in the fleet..keep in mind they get to the fleet as PFC's and have a 2mo MOS school..i went 9months at my MOS school and chased my cutting score til the day i left..i got screwed on my MCI's, they some how never made it to where they should have...I love the corps as an organization, but couldnt stand the Bureacracy and jerks i worked with...it soured my taste..(now i wish i was back in) but i have a family to think of...enough of my sob story :D

I know how you feel. I spent a LOOOONG time as a LCPL. there were several times that the cutting score was so high that only 1 to 5 people in the entire Corps promoted. I was a landing support specialist because I am color blind (prety much cuts out 80% of the jobs) I volunteered for the MEU because I hated BN from the minute I got there. You just had to experience the worst part of the Corps. Too bad you never pumped out. it may have changed your prespective.
I also wish I had never left, but now have a family that I would hate to leave. I'm not affraid to go back to the desert, but I am affraid of my kids growing up without a dad

I know how you feel..i have no kids..my pets our our kids, but my brother is in the army and i thought of rejoining so he wouldnt have to be killed or anything..he has a kid...shes autistic and i would hate for her not to have a dad...the Nick Berg thing fired me up too..Luckily i guess, my brother tore his ACL and wont be going over to Iraq..he was going to Fullajah too...my brothers a grunt...so i knew he was gonna be screwed..like i said i love the Corps...Under different circumstances i would have rejoined by now...
