Aragonite is a specific calcium crystal structure formed by a lot of coral reef organisms such as corals and certain algaes. It's the best type of sand material to use and it comes in a range of particulate sizes. Caribsea makes good aragonite sand and is commonly available in the States; I'd guess you can get Caribsea sand there pretty easily as well.

Crushed coral is actually aragonite, but the grain sizes are simply too large to work as a good DSB. I recommend a mixture of sugar-sized and grittier sand (Caribsea makes a "Special Grade" sand that I like to use).
