Heh, one time a guy overheard me and a friend talking about metal halide lighting , reflectors and photoperiods at the bar and assumed we were talking about growing pot...IIRC we didn't break it to him that we were fish geeks.

LOULE, it may be human nature, but where I come from, it is STRICTLY VERBOTEN to speak against the owner of the house in any way, shape, or form when you're standing in his/her home. It's the lowest of the low, the trashiest of the trash, and means that person not only was not brought up well, but has no class whatsoever.

Agreed. No reefer like to be told how to do things by someone who hasn't proved themselves to him/her. I wouldn't have said anything about the tangs for the time being.

Teevee, it's not particular to reefing, it's particular to the fact that one is standing in someone else's domain, their castle, if you will.

I cannot count how many times I've ended up in the home of a bigot, a misogynist, a simple chauvinist, an ignoramus; spouting absolute CRAP, but I would never utter a word against them. I would leave their home ASAP (difficult when we're talking about in-laws.. sheesh  ), but I would be loathe to go against my upbringing and speak against that person.

Now, if I'm standing in my home and someone pulls what Rob's neighbor did, oh baby, you had better watch out. We Puerto Rican women don't have our fiery reputation for nothin'. 8)

The thing with the aforementioned situation was that the guy with all the fish wasn't standing in his own home, he was standing in Rob_Reef's home! Egads, the STONES it takes! 8O

Some people, eh?

Thats so funny. This happen to me. I was walking down my block and I saw ana actinic glow coming from the window. The tank was what looked like a 75G with a yellow tang, blue tang, and flame angel. A giant finger coral, and large yellow clam. I have to talk to this guy, but I hate his dog which barks all god-damn night.

I would go and knock and tell the guy you noticed the glow and ask if it is a reef tank. I would not say anything about looking it into the house, it might creep then out. Personally, I would not be offended if a neighbor knocked on my door asking about the lights.

I can relate to this also. I learned reefing from
friends when I lived In Charleston,SC. They are
many beautiful tanks in that city. When I moved
here, I quickly learned reef tanks were few and
far between. Most look like crap, but I don't think
it's my place to tell someone their tank is crap. I
just smile and nod!

I have had this happen to me

I have a 55 corner bow tank that sits in the Front room of the house and right next to it is one of those areas with three windows in an angled out area of the room, I forget what they are called. Anyway, If you drive down the street in the one direction you can see my whole tank, esp at night.

Come to think of it, last Halloween a witch asked if she could come in and see my tank, I let her and when she got in I realized it was one of my daughter's friends mother.

I had a neighbor knock on my door a couple of weeks ago - she and her young son walk around the neighborhood all the time, and apparently Joey (an adorable little kid) always bugs her to see the fishies (which are visible from the front window). She was nervous about it (woman with child knocking on stranger's door - could be dangerous), but when she could also see me and my SO watching TV through a front window I guess she thought we didn't look scary so knocked on the door.

Of course I was glad to show her the tank - it's my baby. Too bad the house was messy and I hadn't cleaned the glass that day, but who cares? It was nice to meet someone from the neighborhood.

I'd say just knock on the door, say you saw the glow, and ask to see the tank. They'll probably enjoy showing it off to you (and make sure you compliment them in some way on the tank - it is only polite!).

i personally have dragged my coworkers home to see my tank, and i love showing it off to my sister's company when they come over (I live with her), so I wouldnt care if someone wanted to see my tank if they just knocked on my door! (as long as they werent holding a machete!) :D

He's probably growing weed. The chances are probably better than it being a reef tank. Then again you might have a new friend either way.
