I think that's the 150 tall. It's a great display but will be tough to aquascape and maintain with the depth 31".
If you get it -consider drilling it before you get to far along.

Tall tanks don't make for the best reef tanks. If you're dimensions are correct, you're looking at 1000 watt halides to light a 4' deep tank. You'll also want a powerful pump and skimmer to help exchange gas since the volume to surface area ratio is very low with a tank of your dimensions.

I'd pass on the tank and get a tank that is longer and wider rather then taller.

That is an odd shaped tank. Calculates out to 155 gallons. 31"H X 24"D X 48"L = 35,712 / 231 = 154.60.

I think it would be okay for a reef. You would need 400W halides though to keep things happy at the bottom. My tank is 28"H and with 400W MH (Iwasaki) my SPS and clams are happy.

Another thing to consider is reaching into the tank. I am 6'3" and have a hard time reaching down to the bottom of the back glass if I need to get something. Also cleaning the front glass that deep can be troublesome IMO.

so 48"L x 31"H x 24"W? If that's the case, yeah, it's still deep, but 250W halides should be plenty for anything up to LPS, 2x400W would be needed for SPS and clams probably....to thrive anyways

If you can master the art of skillfully aquascaping it, it'd be a very unique tank

If you're really looking for one of those, I keep running across them used here in San Diego for relatively cheap. One 80 show was $175 complete with external return pump, stand, wet/dry and a striplight.

I was HOPING it wasn't a show tank...

Now if I could only find that 48x24x24 RR tank I'm lusting after!

Hey Mike, if you have the room, get a 48x30x24. I have a 120 gallon but I've always lusted for more front to back depth (mainly for aquascaping purposes). Heck, if you can, get a 60x30x24 :P

A show tank is usually just taller than it is deep (front to back). The problems with this is that you have less water surface area which means less oxygen exchange. The other problem is that they are harder to light because light doesn't penetrate water very well. I like Len's idea for size. 30" front to back would give you lots of room to work with.

As far as topfin goes, I think they are sold just through Petsmart or Petco.... not sure. I would look at an All-Glass Aquarium or Oceanic reef-ready tank. They will be of higher quality and the reef-ready is a huge benefit for keeping the tank looking uncluttered and well filtered. Do a google search and you'll be able to find their websites.

What could go into a tank this size? A lot of things. What do you want to go in a tank this size? Try to avoid most tangs and fish that get really big unless you get to at least six foot in length. HTH

I didn't know they made a 48x30x24 tank... Too bad, 'cause the Tank Mahal is built for a 48"x24" footprint.

Had I known, I probably would've overbuilt that much more...
