What supplements do you use regularly in your reef tanks?
Anyone using Marc Weiss products? Are they really up to their marketing hype and high price?

Thanks,
Luke

Welcome to RDO.

Pretty much no supplements here - just kalk in the topoff and a CA reactor (recently added).

IMO, almost all supplements are overrated, and you shouldn't add anything to your reef without testing for it first.

As for Weiss, no they aren't up to their hype. Be afraid of anything that promises results without listing ingredients. If you do a search on RDO for 'weiss' you will see many threads discussion those products. Total snake oil in my opinion.

I tried the coral vital stuff and did not witness any noticible results. If it was not so damm expensive I might have used more of it. Just water changes, Seachem Reef advantage calcium and Reef buffer here.

BTW, I tried most of the Weiss products at one time (when I was fresher in the hobby and when I was making more money). I didn't find that they did anything except empty my wallet/\.

I'm only using a CA reactor now with good results.
I never used Marc Weiss products. JMO, but he
comes off like a post civil war carpetbagger peddling
snake oil. I just don't believe his outragous claims.

You should never add any supplements to your tank that you can't measure the levels in your tank already.

When I was a newbie I ordered some Marc Weiss Coral Vital. Took three weeks to arrive, and in the mean time I read a bit more of his advertising it sounded so outlandish, decided it had to be a load of bull, so put the stuff in the cupboard and left it there.
Anyhow, curiosity eventually got the better of me, and I decided to try it. Well, believe it or not, it does seem to work. Not to the extent the advertising says, however my corals are growing faster, and polyps opening more. Still not convinced this is all not just coincidence, so I will finish the bottle, and then not use it. I want to see if coral growth will slow back down. If it does slow down I may get another bottle.

Should say good for feeding hair algae and cyano bacteria. Oh yeah don't forget diatoms.

well actually, since I started using it the hair algae has gone white and died off, I am wondering if it contains some kind of algaecide. I have a small amount of cyano which has remained the same, and no diatoms.
Don't get me wrong I am not supporting this product because my own belief is that we should have a right to know what is in a product, and also I do not like the advertising style, however, rather than the extreme views one way or the other that this product tends to incite, I am just reporting what has happend in my case.
