I have a 10g tank with cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, two blue leg hermits, an emerald crab, and three astrea snails. I am getting a shipment of amphipods (grammarus shrimp) from indo pac sea farms and want to know if they will be able to live and multiply in the tank without predation from the animals currently in there. also in the tank is red and green macro algae, a shallow layer of crushed coral and a couple pieces of live rock. the sg is about 1.022, temp 78, ammonia and nitrites 0, ph 8.2.

The hermits would. The snailes are nothing to worry about. I think the cleaner and emerald would be okay... the pepermint is a guess.

Most fish would.. you have any fish?

I have a "rubble pile" in my tank where none of the fish, crabs... anyone can get into. It is where my pods multiply. Since creating this little pile (about 2 #s of LR... $6) lots of additional life all over the tank.

The hermits, cleaner and peppermints will eat amphipods. The snails will not. To be sure of a continuing population they will need a refugium of other safe place away from the preditors.

nacl-h20, thanks. not what i wanted to hear, but thanks!

do you think that it would be safe to put all the shrimps and crabs from this 10g into my healthy 30g, being as that they were in my ich-infested 20g tank a week ago? my pods wont come in the mail till thursday, by then would it be safe (all the potential ich be dead by then)? thanks.

Ick really only effects fish. I've never heard of ick infecting the inverts you named, or any others for that matter... BUT they COULD, very big could, and I'd error on the side of caution carry the ick to a clean tank. The tank would need to be fallow (no fish) for 4-6 weeks to kill all ick.

I'd say put the inverts you are worried about back into the 20 with ick till the pods have a chance in the 10g.
