My son is going to do a science project on Cycling a saltwater aquarium. I am going to use a 10 gallon tank, powerhead and heater. Everyday we are going to take pictures and take readings.Should we put live sand and live rock to cycle it ? If we use LS and LR will all the life and critters die ? After the project I want to use the LR and LS in my main tank. Thanks

if you use uncured lr, you will get a huge ammonia spike, i assume. with regular water changes on a large scale, you should be able to control it. with enough live rock, approx 15-20 lbs for a 10 gal, you should prob complete your cycle within a few weeks. if you use a dsb, approx 4", your cycle should be short. good luck on your project.
