Hello,
Was wondering if anyone is growing Sargassum sp. successfully long term and if so, are you doing anything special to promote its growth? If not, what are you doing that is allowing it to grow successfully?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure I am. I'm not 100% if it's Sargassum, but I think so.
What do I do? Nothing except prune it when it gets too huge, and flush the clippings.
joe,
I don't know if you could call it long term, but man I had it growing like mad in a 60-gallon cylinder on my sun porch. It got a lot of indirect natural light and would grow several inches per week straight up. It's been in the tank about a year now. I really harvested a lot out and it seems to have slowed down growing. The damn seeds were a problem clogging my overflow weir. I wasn't changing much water in the tank so I think it received plenty of nutrient.
People actually want this stuff? You can have mine, I've tried everything short of air drying the rock under a tanning lamp to get rid of it. A coating of hair algae doesn't even stunt its growth.
