I have a 25 gallon reef aquarium. It has been up and running for about four months. About two months ago it turned green (with the lights on it looks neon green). The water is so green that you can't even see the rocks. We started with the live sand and cured rock etc. etc.. We are running a back pak and a poly filter. Does anyone have any idea on how to clear the tank? Everyone I have talked to has never even heard of this.

Thank you!!

sounds like a severe algae bloom, whats in the tank now just live rock, any fish, corals.

if the tank has only live rock in it , then do a complete water change.
have you added anything into the the tank, supplements of any kind.

Agree with Gallo, you have a single cell alge bloom.

A Bak Pak has a skimmer, right?

Are you using RO/DI water for changes and evaporation? Could you be over feeding?

Tell us more about the life in the tank.

i would say check your nitrates/phosphates and make sure you don't add straight tap water. I work at a pet store and we had big algae problems when we used tap for a short while when the r/o filter stopped working.

This happened to me several years ago when I was overfeeding a tank with a very high bioload. It's just an algae bloom. Cut down the feeding, cut down the lighting cycle for awhile, and once it starts to die back, use a diatom filter to pull out the last of it.
