Hi all,

Just got the CSL 2x65W PC/Moonlight from Champion about 2 hours ago. Everything was great with them by the way. Ordered Saturday here today. I just felt the fixture and its getting a bit warm. Its on the stands and it has a huge fan built on the side.

My question is: Does the fan come on automatically when it gets a certain temp? Is it broke or did I miss something?

Thanks for your responses
Scott

Fixture was getting blazing hot so I called Champion Lighting. I asked Todd the same question I posted here.
Todd: Is anything blocking the fan blades?
Me: No
Todd: Are there any wires loose?
Me: Not that I can see
Todd: You might need to check the connections
Me: You want me to open it up?
Todd: Yes

I asked his name in case I needed to call back he said anyone could help me. I paid $191.75 to get a light and then be told I need to open it up to check connections.....I am not an electrician what happens when I electrocute myself?
Poor response & service in my opinion If I could open it and do electrical I WOULD have done DIY and saved $. I guess since CSL went out of buisness they don't care. Bad taste here on my first online aquaria order.

Scott, you shouldn't open it up when it's connected. If you unplug it, there's no chance of electricution save some tingles from small capicators. The fan should come on when you plug it in. I'm guessing there's a loose wire somewhere as well.

If you're uncomfortable opening it up, tell Champion about it. I'm sure they'll take it back. Some people don't mind taking a quick look inside (a few screws to remove) so I think the customer service rep thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. But I'm sure if you told them you don't feel comfortable doing so and prefer to return it, they'll accomdate you.

I agree with Len. Champion is a great company IMO. The fans are usually a small snap connection. I'm no electrician so if I can do it you can too. Like Len said, if you feel uncomfortable let them know.
