SCWD

Has anyone here used a product called SCWD? (Switching Current Water Director) My LFS has just started selling them. He claims they are great, has them set up on several in store tanks. I am just wondering if it is worth the money.

Worth the money? These things are very cheap IMO. $35 online - should be no more than $50 at your LFS. There have been several threads on them and the only complaints I've heard are that they don't make a larger size and they could have done a better job making them easier to plumb with proper PVC fittings.

I ordered one for my 40 gallon tank I'm setting up at my office.

they are like 40.00 at my LFS, he said that the rep of the company said that they are going to start making them with threaded ends in the future so that pvc fittings can be used.
I think i will go ahead and buy one and try it out

Yup, a very cheap alternative to wavemakers.

I've heard nothing but good things about these. I plan on using one in a closed loop I have in the works on my 90g. Plus, if they stop working in 6-months to a year they are steal worth the money to replace IMO.

Just remember that the faster the flow the faster the alternation between outputs. No biggie to me, but something to think about when planning.

I have a 40 gallon tank, and currently use a mag7 for my return. I am hoping that this will be powerfull enough. what do you all think?

All depends on what you are planning on keeping. I'm planning on running a SCWD with a mag9.5 for a return on my 40 breeder but it is pretty much just going to be a softie tank.

I have a mag 5 on my scwd in my 46 gallon, it cycles between the two outputs about every 10 seconds. I have no complaints about mine.

hey thanks for the info everyone. I think i will buy one soon
I do have another question though. the LFS has a few inches of flexible tubing coming off each outlet, then from there its hard plumbed with PVC, he has wooden stands and used brackets to hold the pvc in place.
I however have a wrought (sp?) iron stand I would like to hard plumb mine as well, however i havent figured out how to secure the pvc to the stand. Can this be drilled? or would this not be wise? any suggestionswould be appreciated

I was wondering about this device too...i see it advertised in AFM...so i take it most people agree its a cheaper and just as effective alternative than a wavemaker?

Don't really understand, drill the PVC? No would be the answer there. When I need to secure my PVC I use zip tie's and or wire.

As far as a switching device that turns pumps on and off I think it is a better unit, I can not comment on other units.
