8O I set up a 30 gallon marine aquarium 4 weeks ago, got some live rock, 2 Domino Damsel. Everything going well (ish!) Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 but nitrates still at 30ppm. i'v just added some Kent Nitrate sponge to my canister filter and i know it will take some time to bring down the nitrates but i'm dying to add some mushroom anemones, polup's. Will they be ok with this level of Nitrate of am I just being impatient! I'v kept marines before sucsessfully but this is my first time at a reef tank. What corals would be best to add first? :? Thanks Tony for your reply on my last question :D

mushrooms and polyps and most soft coral can tolerate N03 levels and still thrive in the marine aquarium. You are going to have more problems if ammonia or nitrite or phosphate readings are high. It is best to add slow and not a lot at one time and watch what goes on with what you add. I woudl start with a rock of mushrooms in your tank and see how they do first. They are the most resilient to change and also are great for starting up a tank with coral.

Polyps would be a good choice too but I would probably stick to mushrooms first.

Good luck
