I am still trying to adjust my cal and alk with calcium chloride and my reactor. I finally got my alk down to 10dkh and calcium up to 380ppm. Today for some reason my PH was up to 8.6 at the end of the light cycle when it normally stays around 8.4 with 8.5 being the absolute hightest. Could the calcium chloride be doing this? I thought calcoum chloride had the opposite reaction though.

Calcium Chloride is essentially pH neutral. It does not produce net H+ or OH- ions in water. When dissolved, it dissociates into a single Ca++ ion, which consumes two OH- ions, and two Cl- ions, which consume two H+ ions (1 each). The balance remains neutral.

Calcium Hydroxide (Ca (OH)2) is a net producer of OH- ions (or, if you will a consumer of H+), and increases pH. Hence, limewater or pickling lime add both Calcium and increase pH.

How s your top circulation . you might need to vent the top. this should help when the lights are hot. Calcium should goup about in a day or so. you might want to do a small water change. How are your critters doing? I dont run a calcium reactor. but make sure you got good circulation running. Good luck
