Can anyone suggest a reason why when mixing kalkwasser with well water what could be present to turn the mix a little chunky?
Does limewater react with iron or perhaps manganese etc..
Any insite would be appreciated.
Thanks ksh

what does it matter? I don't think you wanna be adding Iron and Manganese into your precious habitat anyways...strikes me as a bad idea  Check into a RO/DI and it'll solve more problems than you realize you have! 8)

I'm no chemist, but a lot of things will react with calcium hydroxide and make it milky. It could range from heavy metals in well water, phosphates, earth elements, etc. It's very hard to tell unless you know exactly what's in your well water. For this reason, it's recommended you mix kalkwasser with as pure a water as you can (RO/DI does the trick nicely).

Anything that reacts with calcium ion and (OH-) will cause it to react and ruin the solution. Maybe I should replace the "anything" with "everything" since it is pretty much the case. This is why RO/DI water is used instead of tap/well/sea water.

For kalkwasser to work properly, you do have to look into RO/DI even if you have very good water.
