Hey yall
I have set up my 46 drilled out bow finally. The problem is that my 175 Hamilton seems to be causing so issues with my corals. None of them seem to be as bright and my live rock seems is shedding a white layer of skin. It is almost like burnt human skin. All of my prameters seem ok for a new tank (2 weeks old), could my light be causing some problems like being to colse to the corals. It is a hood style setup, but I just don't want anything to die. No fish in the tank yet, could this just be a natural cycle?

Are any of you using Mangroves in your system? I think I might rig something up.

Any way you can get some pics of what's going on? It sounds like your tank is pretty new so it more than likely is due to that, but pics would help.

BTW, I see you're from Nashua, NH. Have you stopped by Inland Reef yet ( http://www.inlandreef.com/ )? They're a sponsor of ours so I thought I'd let you know that they're in the area. :)

how high is your halide above the waters surface?
should be at least 10 inches....i looked into doing mangroves but decided not ti...went with some red macro-algae instead.....a lot of times when you buy mangroves online or wherever, they were started out in fresh water....it takes a while to wean them over to salt and sometimes suffer salinity shock anyway...but can recover...try to find some started in salt...i've been told that their nutrient uptake is rather weak and not worth the trade off of their necessary care....maybe someone else has some better advice though

Thanks for the replies.
I looks as though my tank ws just cycling because everything is doing fine now. It was kind of odd what the rocks were doing, but i looks as though they were just sheding a layer. It was only happening to the ones with real nice coraline on them.
I will keep you posted on the cycling, but I am getting pretty antsey.
Till then...
J.

Hi Jay, Glad to see its working out ok. I had a few issues with my tank as well  but seem to be working themselves out. Its can be a little frustrating because you want everything to be perfect but have the fun is trying to figure out what is going on as long as it doesn't effect the wallet which usually isn't the case. I am going to drop you a line. My wife keeps yelling at me because I am obsesed with all this reef stuff but I can't help myselt. See ya chill Mike
