I'm looking for people whom keep clams in there reefs and are using Power Compacts. I'm using a coralife 130watt unit(65w 10000k&65w 6500k actinic)on my 20g reef. Can i keep clams without them loosing there color? I dont want to slap it down $, and have them turn brown in a month.

Oh, and FWIW, I've kept clams under 2x55W PCs in my 12 gallon nano with no problems either.

Carefull not to change the water parameters too much, Clams are sensitive to large Kalk doses in nano's. My buddy spilt almost a whole liter of kalk into his reef and by the looks of it his tank it's going to be a long recovery!

I keep a T. squamosa in a 29 gallon standard tank with 2 X 24 W and 1 X 55W PC's and it had great color and is growing.

Squamosas are the least light demanding clam, followed by Derasas. Either of those should do well in your tank. Hippopus and Gigas would do well too, but they are hard to find.

I honestly would not try Maximas or Croceas; they may do ok but I would not risk it due to the cost of the clams.

Be careful with clams...my buddy has aiptasia in his tank and it has overtaken one of his clams. So as long as your careful and don't let any aiptasia infest your tank you should be fine....Clams also need a lot of calcium as well...so from time to time "drop" some kalkwasser in your tank to buff your calcium a little.
