I just got a MRC nilsen reactor. It looks really nice and I am trying to set it up today. The problem is that it has some hose connectors on top for the water to be pmped in/out. I am unsure of what type of hose they are for and how to connect it.

I am sure some of you must have seen these and know what they are. I am kind of new to reefkeeping so have no idea. I am also sending an email to MRC, but am hoping to get an answer asap. I want to set this up soon. I am using a Litermeter with airline for my topoff and want to put the reactor inline, perhaps with the same airline (???)

Thanks...

Wow that MRC reactor looks way different then mine I got last year or so. In anycase the connectors on top are John Guest fittings. Push tubing in untill it stops and it hold it in.

In is the one with the tube that goes to the bottom. Out is the one that is just in the lid. I use mine with a liter meter also. Just connect the liter meters output to the Input on the reactor then Some R/O tubing to the reators output port. I use R/O tubing as its a little stiffer then regualr airline tubing but a assume either will work.

Is the stirrer on that reacter built in to the unit. Is it removable for cleaning if Kalk builds up on it? Does the power cord connect to it somehow? Mine has the magnetic stirrer under the unit and uses a stir bar that sits on a acrylic plate.

As mentioned above those are John Guest "Speed" fittings. They are designed to accept 1/4" OD (outside diameter) polyethylene tubing. You can find this tubing at any plumbing supply/hardware/home improvement place - it's very common and inexpensive. As mentioned above you just push the tubing in until it seats.

Very convenient and no leaks too!

It should be the same type of tubing coming out of your RO/DI unit.

Nice looking reactor!

Thanks for the help everyone, but I got a really quick response from MRC: "The connections on the Nilsen are the same as Ro/DI tubing or
refrigerator
tubing you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes...1/4" outside Diameter. It
will
go from your liter meter to the nilsen then from the top of the nilsen
to
your sump."

Ben, to answer your questions - there is a hole in the main cylinder below the black acrylic on the bottom for the cord from the power supply. The hole is not visible in the photo above because it is on the back side. Mine also has a magnetic stirrer under the unit and uses a stir bar. You can see the white stir bar in the photo. It is not connected to anything, but is held in place by the magnets on the motor beneath the unit.
