Do conches move super slow???

I recently put two in my tank and they are moving super slow and I fear this isnt the norm. Arent they supposed to dig themselves in the sand and clean??? They arent doind great job if they are supposed to

What kind of conchs?

Any conchs I have kept generally pick a spot and stay there for several hours, preferring to pluck any algae or other foods off the substrate and lower areas of the rock with their proboscus rather than move.

when i first added my two they moved very very little at first... i was worried also, but after about a week they really started moving around and cleaning the sand like crazy.

Don't expect conchs to move around as quickly as nassarius. Nassarius are fast for snails ;-)

You'll be fine. My queen conch is lucky if she makes it from one side of the tank to the other in a day. My fighting conchs were the same way.

I have been watching them. They started eating as soon as they were introduced, which is a good sign. They are now moving a bit more and seen to be cleaning the sand slowly. they are also cleaning bases of the rock. I guess I was being a bit paranoid

I added three queens last week. They move slow and seem to split their time 50/50 from glass to sand. All well, I also added a couple of cucumbers.

I am thinking of adding one cucumber too. Whats the best for cyno and hair algae, Tigertail??

You needn't worry about the Holothuria genus of cucumber like the tiger-tail or the red and black. I've had them for years without a single problem.

The best devourers of cyano and hair algae are going to be Mexican Turbos, without a doubt.

It's not very hard to stop it from happening:

Don't have powerheads in your tank.

Don't have any sea cucumber predators in your tank.

Don't chop your cucumber in half by dropping a rock on it....

...and that's about it. They rarely nuke unless they're very stressed.

Don't have powerheads in your tank.

Not even at the top??? I though cukes bury themselves and stay buried. my Power head are on the high side. Do cukes climb?

They can. If you put a large strainer over it you probably don't have to worry too much.

I had (2) Mexican turbos- my hermits made quick work of them! How big are the conches, and are there any down sides to having them? I don't believe I've seen them for sale around here. I currently have (3) sand sifting stars that do a nice job. :D

You've got some mean turbos. Are you able to maintain a strong pod population despite having 3 sand sifting stars?
