I am looking to replace my skimmer. I think this has allot to do with my hair algae problems.

The skimmer NEVER makes dark skimmate and the waste collector I dump every 2-3 weeks is clear with a green tint.

I have talked to the maker and they state I dont have enough bioload in the tank.

Tank is a 58. Skimmer will be an in sump. Tank water height in the sump is 12 inches. Stand is not that tall.

I am looking for a GOOD skimmer, not a scam.

Any recommendations?

Euroreefs are definitely good. Also, you could look at the beckett-based skimmers as an option...

I cast my vote for an ETS Downdraft. I'm setting up a 75 and just grabbed me a Superdevil for 250 bucks at the LFS it came with the pump and all.

Rob, I believe we have a skimmer selection survey/poll/FAQ (something like that) on the site. Euro-Reef offers REAL quality products, I have yet to hear of anyone unhappy with performance, flexibility, or "use-ability" issues (this is based on my observations here, and on wetwebmedia/wetwebfotos).

I can't answer your two specific questions regarding placement and waste collection, but I'm positive that a phone call to the folks at Euro-Reef would answer those and much more.

I have a deep stock tank sumpand couldn't get a Euro that runs externally, so went with an Aqua-C. Never compared it directly to euroreef, but it seems to work fine, on a similar small power usage like Euroreef.
