I need some help/advice. I had 2 blue spot jawfish. I am down to 1 now. As it has been written about in the past, these fish came down with this mysterious disease where it seems scales start falling off, leaving a whitish background. this eventually spreads throughout the fish. In addition, the fish starts having labored breathing until it ultimately dies. My last one now seems to have the same problem.
The previous one had all the symptoms, plus it seemed to have white spots inside its mouth and on its fins just before he died. The spots didn't seem to look like ick..seemed a bit larger and I could swear they moved on occassion. I treated the previous one with maracyn two for 5 days and it still eventually died. I found it one morning on the bottom of the tank and placed it in formalin. I did an autopsy and gill/skin scrapings.
I noticed many small oval or round things with a round area on the inside of them. they were basically a circle within a circle. I saw lots of them in the gill and skin scrapings. Also, there seemed to be a fungus on the scales, but I am skepticle of the fact that this may have been a result of the fungus starting up following death. I am not sure how long the fish layed there dead before I found it. No more than 8 hours though. I did a freshwater bath before placing the fish in the hospital with antibiotics.

Now, my last jawfish has the same symptoms. Anyone with any experience with such illnesses????? I am very perplexed with this whole thing. These two fish were the only 2 fish in the tank. On the same water system though, there are several other fish that show no symptoms. This is something specific to the jawfish.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am ready to start treatment on the remaining jawfish following any advice.

This is quite common with blue spotted jawfish unfortunately. Some people suggest it is because of a bacterial infection, and others say jawfish have delicate epidermis that gets damaged during stress of collection and transit. Sorry to say, but most of these fish die if they exhibit the symptoms you listed. I personally don't find blue spotted jawfish hardy and I stay clear of them (even though they are incredibably beautiful and interesting). Some people have had success, but my guess would be most succomb to the same illness that you're now seeing.
