hi,
ive been keeping leather corals in my tank for over twelve month now,ere is my problem when i buy a new leather from my lfs they are fulley open with lots of polyps, after a couple of days in my tank they open fully for a while then they close down, when they re open thers no polyps its just open, they dont seem to be dying i just cant get them to polyp, this as been going on for over 12 month,my water checks fine all test are good.
my lighting is 6 t5 tubes 5 wht 1 blue on for 12 hrs, i also have open brain coral, plate corals, xenia, bush coral, all doin fine, ere are some of the things ive tried to get them to polyp, moving them around the tank, changing water flow, leaving them alone to settle, plus many other things, making sure neighbouring corals are not stinging,i think ive tried everything.
as i write this ive left my leathers alone for a good few month and yet again no polyps,i feed the tank daily with zoo plex, red sea plankton, but guess what still no polyps.is there something iam not giving them to make them thrive, ive checked for pest eating them no pest, any way i decided to let my lfs check my water and they said also its fine,at the end of my water tests the store said this is easy to solve there is something leathers dont like about your tank so stop bying them.my reef tank as been runnin for 2 years now and it is doing very well everything else is growing and looking good so why the hell arnt my leathers.
tank params=ph constant 8-2,0niterite0,low natrate,salin=0.124,ammonia=0,dkh=12 constant,calc=420,tank size=48-18-15,fluval 404,2 maxijets 1200,my blue light comes on first for 1hr then my t5 come on for 10hrs,blue light on for 1 hr after t5 have gone off,i think ive covered everythin,is there anything more i can do as leathers are my favourit coral.
ps
sorry for long thread but any advice on were iam going wrong could end this long on going problem.
