New MH Lamp..... HQI Impressions.

Just got my 250 Watt HQI Lamps today and i pluged it in.
Boy was i dissapointed.




Then about 15 seconds later i almost lost my sight. :lol:
I didnt know MH took a few seconds to kick in the first time they are powered up. Now i feel like the sun has invaded my living room.
OMG What a difference!!!

I guess i dont even need any more lighting in my living room other than the Lamp on my reef tank.

I didnt know there were any major uses of LEDs in our hobby excluding night lights.

Not yet for main lighting. It's still probably at least 5 years away before it's heavy in the market, but we'll be looking at less energy consumption and low heat. You can say good-bye to chillers after that. I think the issues right now are price and ballast concerns.

when i got my 100 gallon and went from pcs to halides, i was very happily surprised by how bright my new lights were. my pcs werent too shabby but the halides really were amazing and that shimmering effect is way cool
