One is about 3- 3.5 inches across when fully extended now... and his brother is tiny... since I cut his head off to make more... then lost the clippings in the tank )
They are a beautiful phosphorescent when put under Actinic.
If the zoos would spread a little more, I would be happy to mail you a couple. I didnt get an email telling me anyone replied to this thread........... kinda strange. I thought no one liked me anymore lolololol
Anyway, anyone have any idea what the pet stores would call this type of shroom when they sell it. I cannot find them anywhere.
I have lots of these in my aquarium-huge to tiny- they really reproduce quickly. They were sold to me as Actinodiscus striatus..see page 155 in "The Marine Aquarium Problem Solver". Once in a while, they will catch a piece of food (or you can intentionally feed them for fun) and they clos e up like an onion bulb, especially my larger ones. Mine are green, and really look pretty under the actinics!
Mine wasn't sold.. It was a little scrap on the bottom of the tank of the LFS I talked a young kid out of giving me for free with a yellow tail damsel I bought.
There is a WIDE variety of colors that (Actinodiscus sp) come in. but these look like mine and yours I believe.
I have successfully made a bunch of rocks with zoos on them by pulling one off the rock they were on and super glueing (with a tiny drop) to the new rock or wedging the trunk into a crevace on the new rock, they soon attach and start spreading. It seems the more less crowded the faster they spread!
You can pull the zoos off by wedging a plastic knife under the bottom or gently but firmly pulling off with those stainless medical plier/ grabber things or needle nose pliers.
I "grab" as far down the base as possible before pulling. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SQUIRT YOURSELF IN THE EYE as some of these are quite poisonous.
