Refugium conversion ??s

I have a small sump under my tank and I am thinking about converting it to a fuge. The fuge area would be about 6 inches by 9 inches. Would this be a good move for my 90 gallon? I am planning on purchasing a 30 inch fuge within the next 3 or 4 months. I am hoping to add some macro to try and starve my nuissance algae.
