Well I have been searching for some time trying to ID the two types of algae in my tank. I am pretty sure that the one type is diatom. I am still no sure about the other kind. Apparently it is only those of us without digital cameras that have this problem. The algae is mostly on top of the sand and it is a deep burgundy color and it appears to be like very soft flowing hair about 3 or 4 inches long.

Should I add some more sand sifters? Right now my cleanup crew consists of about 10 Nassarius, 10 Astrae, 6 Red Leg Hermits, 2 Scarlet Hermits, 2 Turbo Snails, 4 Cerith, 2 Stomatella, 1 Emerald Mythrax, 1 Algae Blenny and various Shrimp. Any help would be appreciated. By the way it is in a 90 Gallon tank.

It sounds like it may be cyanobacteria that has formed filaments.

If so, it would feel slimy and mostly disintegrate between your fingers.
