Does anyone have any suggestions to this quandry?

I am being overrun with Green Coraline Algae taking over the acrylic sides of my tank. Anyone have any innovative suggestions?
Does anyone know how to make Green Coraline turn purple? Seems there are 4 species of Coraline taking hold, Blue, purple bubble, Maroon and abundant Green. The others are growing slowly. Thanks in advance, and hit me an e-mail if you've got a neat suggestion.

Purple bubble? Thats a new one to me. Do you mean bubble algea with purple coraline growing over it.

I have never heard of blue either, but thats just IME. I have seen a green coraline like algea that usually grows in low light areas. Why is it causing a problem?

I have had that green corraline algae growing in my tank for some time. I have basically ignored it, scraping it off the sides when it interferes with the view of the tank. I have noticed that it falls off on its own--in places--after a while. I still have a lot of it but i have noticed that purple and pink are starting to grow over the top of it in places.

I had the same problem and here is what I did:

1) Added coral-vital to accelerate all coralline algae growth.
2) Scraped off the green coralline algae, be careful not to scrape any of the purple.

Eventually the purple won in the end due to this process. Hopes this helps.

They have a fight, purple wins.

Coralline man...

Actually the green provides a base for the purple to hold onto. Unless it is on the front glass, I let it all go.

Thnaks for the suggestions... It's pretty rapid growth is what scares me, but I am pretty happy the tank is maturing well.
The purple I refer to is a species that spreads in "bulbs" in some places depending on the rock it adheres to.
Puff, ever get high and look at the fish?

I was always told that the growth of the coralline was directly related to the color (or majority of color rather) of the live rock in the tank.
This is true in my system anyway. I can't really grow much more than a light pink with an occasional purple. No green/blue to be found.
Is this just a rumor?

Welcome to Reefs.org!
I have to second everything samsdada said. I just leave it alone and the purple will grow over it making it thicker. I would reather have green coraline rather than some of the nasty algae that it competes with.

I think the color (type) of coraline has to do more with lighting then it does what type is all over the rocks. In my 40 the walls are all pink but the rock is all purple. Certain types of coraline grow better in different light conditions.

Can you post a picture of your (purple bubble coraline) as I cant find any reference of this type of algea.
