i have been thinking about changing my aquascape to break up fishes territory because I want to add some new fish now. do you think this is okay? it got me thinking if it is a good idea to change your aquascape once a year to break up territories. do you think it is more good then bad or more bad then good?

i did it only when necessary to better place an immobile creature, like if i wanted to create a better spot for an anemone or something.

one thing i disliked about changing the rockwork is that it often exposed the undersides of the LR, where no coraline or phtosynthetic stuffs grow. It looks all icky for a while.

You shouldn't need to move the entire rock structure around. Mine is built in two layers, one that sits on the sand, and another that sits on top of that. When I move rock prior to adding a fish or for most any purpose, I just move the top layer.

you shouldnt have to do it much at all unless you dont QT and then something like ich happens, or a hitchhiker fish killing crab makes it in the tank with L/R .... both of which happenned to me.... lessons learned the hard way... had to remove all rock 2 times it really really sucks, now my rocks arent as cool as they used to be either (arrangement) but i think it will be a while before i rearrange....

I had moved my rock around in the beggining. After a while corals are encrusted on most of the rock. I haven't really moved anything in about two years.

theres a damsel terrorizing everyone.... theres 1 reason.... theres a hitchhiker crab , theres 2 reasons.... may not be necessary sometimes, but in some situations it is... if your just doing it for aestetics i would say do just a few rocks at a time, its pretty stressful to everything to unload all the rock and have to put it back in.

when you move the rocks, it changes the fishes mindsets in territoral claims...its like a reset switch...they then think they have to re-establish new territory...

Hey JB, It must be hard not moving your liverock due to the corals encrusting all over it ;) I really pity you :)
