Help! We successfully acclimated our blue linckia starfish (amazingly enough, the little guy has a strong will to live!) a month ago. It seemed to be doing fine until last night we noticed that something was happening. A fibrous looking growth has appeared in the center of its back. It seems to be a brownish/pinkish color and looks sort of like a "blister" type thing. Any ideas? Any remedy suggestions? We want to help it as soon as possible so that we don't end up loosing the little guy. We've got 3 blue leg hermits and 1 scarlet hermit, but they're all pretty small. Might they be causing some damage?
Also, I've read somewhere that it might be a good idea to put some clam meat under them for plenty of food. We've been putting bits of this and that under it and aren't sure if its helping. Any more reccomendations here and how often should it be done?

im not sure what it is, but you can pretty much rule out the hermits...

We called around and a local experienced reefkeeper seems to think that its a parasite. She reccomended that we use Maracyn 1, which we got yesterday. The package says that they don't expire until May of this year but they do not dissolve rapidly as the instructions say they should. We're thinking they're defective.

If a picture will help better ID the culprit, I've posted a couple. They're a bit fuzzy, but the best I could get. The first one is a straight on pic of its back:

Starfish 1

and the second is of a side view.

Starfish 2

Sorry about the loading time, I realize they are still a bit big, but I figured that might help with being able to see the stuff really large.

Thanks again!
