Since there are so many negative threads about LFSs... why not a positive one? I've gotten some good deals over the years - mostly by all too frequent visits.

Here are mine:

Black Tang (Zebrasoma rostatum) 1.5 inches for $18.88 (very mild lateral line that has already gone away).

Juvenile X-mas island emperor angel for $39 (now 6 inches will full adult colors - also had mild lateral line now gone).

Joculator Angel for $350 (they sell for $600 plus usually).

Let's see some more...

i always think our LFS's need positive support... in a general sort of way.
some reasons why i support mine....

a) they are better than PETCO (at least mine are)

b) i can view my livestock before buying

c) buying from a local dealer makes more aquaria available in the area

d) regardless of the press they recieve here, most LFS owners i run into are good people.... they are usually socially introverted and sometimes a bit odd... but good people none the less.

e) many hobbyists need to be educated as to proper aquarium husbandry. a knowledgable LFS can provide this.

f) i have LFS owners here in Portland that will refuse to carry livestock that will die because of suitability or collection technique whereas the internet will provide anything.

Whaaaaa? You got a black tang for $18.88? I can't compete :P

Best deal I got was a 4" Teardrop T.maxima for $20 (incredible specimen). This was years ago before they were readily available. The LFS sold it to me as a T.squamosa.

Len-

Yep- the tang had been sent to limbo in a bottom row tank because of the mild HLLE. I asked if I could give it a good home on a whim and got it for $18.88! Looks better already. Pays to frequent your LFS. There is still a rhomboidalis there with your name on it!

One lfs near me puts together a "frag" tank every couple of months, and they usually stick some very valuable frags in it unknowingly (lucky for me). The best deal has to be the ricordea "frag" I bought. A small piece of coralline encrusted tonga branch with 8 or 9 maroon and green polyps on it. I was very, very satisfied with that purchase. :)

10 bucks.

I would have to say that my LFS has been very helpful. Also I give him good deals where I work so I get cost on just about everything :D . I know some LFSs can be very dishonest, I personally have not ran into this problem with mine.

I can get IO buckets $34.95.....Sometimes if I go in there looking for like a test kit or some fish food...he will give me an opened one for like a buck..or he has even given me a box of test kits before(ph). I will support my LFS as much as I can for the great service I get

small button coral for free

the LFS in my area are kinda crappy-cyano/sailors eye in the reef tank, diseased fish. So its kinda hard, since the nearest good one is 2 hours away. I believe that is another reason why all my fish die. :( :x

The LFS nearest to me lets me pick through their junk pile - I have gotten great deals on tanks, chambers for CA reactors, stands, pumps, fuges, and sumps. It really pays to work on a good relationship with LFSs.
