It's a problem that can last years if left unchecked, so I don't suggest just trying to wait it out. It can and will kill everything in your tank if it gets really bad. I have had exellent results with carbon and a kalk drip. Try and maintain a PH level of 8.4-8.6 for at least two weeks and I'm sure you will see results. I also suggest cutting your lighting cycle in half for the first week and then add a hour evey week there after until you are back to a normal cycle.

I was really close to tearing down my tank a few weeks ago and now I'm pretty sure I'm rid of them.

Definitely, reducing nutrients (RO filter, PO4 sponge, good carbon, skimmer, water changes, etc.) will help the most. I've also found, like Money Pit, that elevated pH and alk levels impedes their growth. Elevating redox potential helps too; this can be done by directly more current at the water's surface area to increase air/water gas exchange, using a good skimmer (with air intake plumbed outside your cabinent or canopy), and ozone if necessary. There are some anti-dino medications but I don't know if I'd use them in a reef tank.
