The blue-greens I got at the LFS did in a 20gal long. But in my 75gal they went to hiding and I suspect it was the blue-yellow tail hassling them that caused this. I expected them to school and appear large enough as a group to not be hassled. Didn't work.

Originally, I had a school of 8 in my 500g. They schooled quite a bit in the beginning but over the years I guess they began to feel safe and gradually 'loosened up'. Last year, being down to 5, I added 4 more. These were pretty large for Green Chromis, maybe 1 1/2", to match the originals. Now, once again, they all seem to school up quite often.

Yes, they school. The bigger the tank, and the bigger the group, the more they stick together. And I agree with Stone, a bit of fear will make them school also.
The 35 green chromis in the shark tank school beautifully together as they are picked off one by one....:twisted:

At first, my chromis schooled all the time. In the last several months though, they have become much more reclusive, only coming out to feed. The larger pair out of three school together during feeding time and chase the smaller one out of the school. I have had to heavily feed the tank recently to make sure that this third chromis gets plenty to eat.

I have considered adding two more chromis to the tank, to see if that gets them out and about and schooling again, but then, I have concerns about having chromis, a pair of clowns and a tang as my only fish in the tank so... maybe not.

Anyone know of a good dither fish that will get the chromis out and about again?

I voted other. I have 3 chromis for 4 or 5 months now. They were my first fish.

They have never schooled. One fish is dominant and harasses ALL the other fish.

The tank is a 120, with lotsa swiming space (rock structure is open). Tankmates include two clownfish (false perc), one purple tang and a lawnmower blenny.

I've tried them several times in my 120. They'd school at first then go their seperate ways. Sometimes one would decide to harass the rest.

OK, So I am not the only one who had a rebel chromis that decided to take on all his brothers?
