How long should I keep my MH's on?

I currently have 2x250watt Usihio 10k and 2x110watt VHO Uri Super actinics for lighting over my 120gl reef. I currently leave my VHO's on for 12hrs and my MH's on for 8hrs. Is this suitable? I have seen many people keeping thier MH's on for 10hrs. Is 8hrs good or should I up it to 10hrs?

8 hours is fine. It's on the lesser side of what most people run their MH (10-12 hours), but it's ok if you're concerned about heat or electricty costs.

what is the average summer photoperiod of the regions where we get most of the aquarium hobby corals?

What is the photoperiod of the red sea? of fiji?

We know the captive bred corals are much hardier than wild caught but are our corals slowly evolving towards around the clock growth as well due to everyone keeping a different photoperiod?
