I found a crab in a cerith shell, in a batch of ceriths that I
bought. Do I go ahead and put him in or leave him in
my whisper filter with sand and live rock?

Crabs are all suspcisious critters to me and in my opinion I'd leave it out of the display tank if you don't know what kind of crab it is. Most are relatively beneign but there are more then a handful of crabs that can be considered pests.

Chances are that it's a relatively harmless species, so I suggest leaving it in the aquarium. It's certainly easy enough to catch if it gets too large or if you suspect that it's damaging something.

Crabophobia (irrational fear of crabs) in full effect here. Let's at least find out what's in the tank and perhaps what type of crab we're dealing with here before we start crying wolf.

In my opinion, crabs are one of those critters that I would leave out if I'm not sure what they are. Call it phobia if you'd like. ;)

Can you post a pic? Maybe someone can ID the critter 'till then throw it in the fuge.

Sean

It's only in a cerith shell, and when i pick it up, it withdraws into the
shell. I'm not sure i'll be able to get a pic of it unless I let it round
around in the main tank and then when the claws were out, they were
pretty small.
