Ok I admit it. I'm a fish lover in reef lover's forum. I guess Scott Michael and I have something in common. I have a special fondness for Regal angels even though they have a poor track record. I have a beautiful Red Sea Regal in a 160-gallon tank that I've had for 2.5 years. It is the picture of health and eats anything I offer. Regretably it was the only one out of four that I got in that would eat anything. About a month ago I decided to give Regals another try. I got in four from the Red Sea, only this time I decided to try and put them all together. My hope was that one would start eating and the others would get the idea. I'm very happy
to report that my plan worked out beautifully. All four are eating like pigs now (after a slow start) and getting along to boot. They all eat New Life Spectrum, Marine Supreme, flake food, frozen mysis, shrimp, live brine and more. I don't have a clue to their sexes, but there is defintely a pecking order. One is probably a dominate male and one is probably a submisssive male. I think the other two could be female. The sub-dominate male got his tail nipped a little, but no real damage and no hounding. One does have quite a bit of lymphocystis which I am hopeful will go away without treatment.
I don't know if this method will help other store owners to get Regal angels to eat or not, but I thought I would pass it on. BTW I also have a Rhinopias eschmeyer in the 125-gallon tank with the Regals. (Lower right hand of picture) My problem is now I want to keep the Regals instead of selling them. I am in the process of setting up a 450-gallon so who knows.
Cheers,
Mitch
