Leveling a new tank

OK, So I just picked up my 75g tank, stand, and canopy. How would you all recommend leveling everything from front to back? Specifically, what kind of shims did you use for your setup?

I just get shims from the local hardware store or I've used broken strips of paint stirring sticks.

You put them under the stand I assume?

Beats me believe it or not I got my stand for my 75 from Goodwill for 15 bucks, sat the tank on it, and checked it was as perfect as you can get.

I took all the skin off my fingers levelling my Effectline Aquarium, the screw in feet have a grippy bit, and i guess i was so over zelous that i just tore all my fingertips off, nice!

You put them under the stand I assume?

Yep, otherwise you're putting pressure points on your tank edges where you put the shims.

you can also use styrofoam insulation sheeting that they use for homes
between the stand and the tank, unless you are way off on your leveling the styrofoam will almost self level itself

Styrafoam works for fixing a stand that is uneven, however it will not correct a severe tilt one way or the other - which is what I think he's talking about. Not sure.

I thought that shims would create pressure points on the stand, so I did nothing for the slight tilt, figuring that the extra pressure on the tank font from a slight tilt would be nothing compared to the pounds per inch it takes when it is leveled.

Turns out that the stand just settled into my wood floor and is now as level as can be...so no worries.
