Hi all,

Do you think it would be feasible to add DT to my kalk mix? Let me explain. I drip kalk 24/7, but regularly forget to add DT to my tank. I was thinking of an automated way without additional equipment and the only option I could think of was to add it to my kalk drip.

Do you think that would work? Would the DT affect the kalk (or vice versa) in any way?

I do not think it would be a good idea for 2 reasons.

1. Your kalk drip is with fresh water, DT's is saltwater plancton.

2. The PH of the kalk solution will be way off for the DT's to survive.

Just my thoughts.

Good point Wazzel. I had not considered the fresh water issue. There goes that idea.

Do you think that, if set up correctly, dripping DT would be feasible?

I think it could be. I'm sure their is a number of days that DT's could live unrefrigerated. The mixture would have to be aggitate once in a while to keep from setteling. I'm thinking a weeks worth would be the practicl limit, but I do not know for sure.

i bet if you put a light source and feed CO2 in the DT batch it would last longer. for the CO2 just use some yeast and warm water in an air tight container that feeds directly to the DT batch. could be wrong though.

Many people culture their own photo plankton. I'm sure with a little thought a photo station couls be auto dosed.

One additional thought.

I usually make my own food but usually do not add DT to the mix. Would that be an acceptable alternative or would it die once frozen? If not, would it thaw out in the water column when I feed the tank and therefore be beneficial to all the inhabitants, or would it be ingested only with the food?
