Have a 75g FOWLR, changing out about 12g of store bought RO/IO (IO salt mix) every four weeks. LFS says I should be supplementing minerals, and would probably help my hair algea problem.

I disagree. Unless you have substancial amount of coralline algae, there is no need for any mineral if you do regular water change. If you do have lots of coralline algae, then test you calcium level to see if it is sufficient for its growth. If the calcium is low, then you will need to dose calcium to boost its growth.

Hair algae problem in a FOWLR tank typically is due to overfeeding of the fish and insufficient skimming. Test your store bought RO/DI to make sure it is not the source of nutrient for you algae.

100% agree. Verify that the RO/DI from the store is good. Many stores don't maintain them like they should. Test for TDS and phosphates.

No dont use supplements. the water changes are fine. I add about 3gallons of saltwater everytwo weeks to replenish lost supplements. I dose kalk thru a drip. Yeah dont its a waste of money. Unless there s a deficiency .

i'd just like to add that i agree as well. i had a problem with hair algae in the early stages of my tank and fought it using several methods. when i finally got a new skimmer, the hair algae died a way.
