about two days ago i was watching my tank and i figured out the reason you dont use maxi-jets with the open suction end..... im watching the lawnmower blenny eating the film algae he loves so much then he swims under the maxi jet, starts picking algae off of it then WHAM his head got sucked right into it, i rushed and found the cord and unplugged it, i reached in lifted the maxi jet up very very carefully and he wiggled out.... swam down and just laid in his hiding shell.... his huge lips were both red and one of his "antlers" is gone, but today after two days of just laying around and breathing hard hes out and about and back to eating film algae, tuff guy, i feel bad for not thinking of this, i should have known that this was a danger, but ive never had a fish swim in one before.

if you stick a bio ball where the intake of the maxijet is, your problem will be solved and you will have a bit of mechanical filtration too

yea, im just glad my blenny is back to eating algae and acting normal, i was worried he wouldnt make it for a day or 2, he is weary of the remaining safe powerheads.

Youshould see the mess an anemonie makes going through one of those things. Glad to hear your lawn mover made it ok, anything that does that much head banging has to be a hard little critter.
