I have a 150 with a 180 sump. I was thinking of adding like 12 cleaner shrimp to the sump to take advantage of their babies feeding the tank. Whaddya think?

Great idea. This is exactly what I planned on doing with my main tank, perhaps 8-10 skunk cleaners. Your pipefish will appreciate it!

If I'd ever get around to it, I'd do the same for my tank. Time and $$ are stopping me. heh

that would make alot of babies! i have 4 in my tank that hatch out
babies weekly. do peppermints breed as prolificly? the cleaners look
cooler, but if your buying 12 and putting them in the sump you wont see them anyways. i was thinking of putting a pair or two of mollies in mine,
and seeing if the babies make it to the tank.

My peps breed every two weeks or so. In fact, one or the other is ALWAYS carrying eggs.

OJ, I read that fw babies aren't good as a staple food for saltwater fish. Once in a while is okay, but not everyday. Now, I may be compeletely wrong if they've beed acclimated to salt water.

Do you guys have a cheap source for cleaner shrimp? If I got 12 or so cleaners, it'll set me back a good penny. Let me know.
Thanks.

fw fish are never really a great feed idea for sw fish-raising the fw fish in sw won't change its protien makeup-a molly is a molly is a molly

I've always wondered about that, although I'd always read that the issue had to do with lipid types.

Righty, I think it's a righteous idea.. I still dig your sump fort, too. Are you still thinking about replacing the angler?

Yeah, but mollies are not a fw fish, they are brackish coastal fish. They will mop up algae in reef tanks & do better in sea water than they do in fw.

Thanks lady! And everyone else.
Marine depot has skunks for 56 bucks for 6. Seems pretty good, but I am gonna see if a LFS can match the deal.

Actually, I already replaced him. I was in a LFS, and saw him...what can I say, I got him. Yellow wartskin, with a red stripe around his dorsal and tail (can't remember how to spell caudial) fin. Teaching him to eat is not as fun as the other one was. Fenner was here, nice guy, and it seems a mystery as to what happened to the other one. I think it must have been the feeding stick, so I am gonna be real careful with this guy.

Hey coralshrimp, any LFS in your area would be silly not to cut you a deal on skunks @ 12. That number alone usually gets a price break through a wholesaler. If they ordered 24 or 36 in an order they could cut you a good deal & still make a good profit themselves. They don't ever get as cheap as peps though.

Oh yeah, so you got to meet Bob, eh? I heard they were doing the "junkett". We also got word that the book got a local printer's association award for the layout. Kewl beans (to quote Coral).

You might want to try using a length of rigid plastic tubing with a slightly sharpened ziptie tied to it. I've had no troubles using this setup.

IME, Peps are much more aggressive than cleaners, and I really don't want them wiping out all the fauna in my sump (which I also use as a prop area). I also have only seen peps to be like a buck cheaper than peps.
