Hi all, sorry for my english, but j don't speak (and write ) it very well, j'm Italian and j lived in Rome.
I would like to use the lamp in object, without glass on the roof lamp, but j don't know if this is possible, j fear to UV can cause to a disaster.
Somebody have tested this lamps, successfully without using glass on the roof lamp?
My idea is to mix, in the same reflector, 2 of 400w HQI, one 20000k (Radium) and one 10000k (BLV).
This is my tank when j had only 1x400w 10000k BLV, but with glass on the roof lamp:

1. if you are describing the use of an HQI bulb without the reflector box's glass then i advise you to use it with the glass.
this is not because of UV danger but to protect the inner housing from salt and moisture.

2. if you are describing the use of an HQI bulb and reflector box with the glass installed in the housing and wish to remove the Aquarium's glass top, then i advise you to do so.
the additional UV should do no harm to your tanks inhabitants.

I think he's asking if it's safe in terms of UV radiation, to remove the cover glass from a canopy that will house a MH SE lamp. The SE lamps are the E40 here in europe.

I think that from what i heard it is ok, but i would also like to know the opinions of the fellow american reefers because i ordered too the exact same lamp as you, BLV 10000K E40.

You can also email BLV directly. They will give you an answer too.

Yes, you definately can use it wothout a glass protection on the reflector or rather between the bulb and the water. No harm done by it. That is how I ahve my 4x400 watt Ushios and how most people run them here in the US. Ciao...........

Dear all,

Over my tank I've got 3 x 400 w (20.000) venture and 2 x 1.000 w (10.000) BLV.

Can I be sure also with a BLV 1.000 w (10.000 k°) without the glasses
protection on the reflectors?

Thanks

Mauro (from Rome, Italy)

I run 2 400w radiums with reflectors. I dont have any glass between them and the tank though. I have never had any problems this way.
