Leather behavior

I have three leathers: Toadstool, Sinularia and Devil's Hand. Not really sure which is which.

Do they normally open and close on a regular basis?

One in particular...I think it is the Devil's Hand...is usually quite open when the tank lights go on about noon. Then as the day goes on, it tends to close up...sometimes opening again occasionally.

Are they nocturnal? Is there any typical pattern based upon lighting?

All my softies(which is all my corals at the moment)close up after lights out and then open up during the photo period.I have a toadstool leather that will sometimes be opened up already when the lights come on but not all the time.How long are you leaving the lights on?You may have them in a spot where the lighting is too intense or your photo period is too long.I was noticing some similar behavior from some of my corals,sort of wilting near the end of the light period,I cut back on the timers and it corrected it.

My toadstool has always opened and closed on a fairly regular basis. In my case, its opening and closing has nothing to do with lighting as it has been in the same location in my tank for over 2 years with a consistent light regime. Sometimes it closes at night. Sometimes not.

I found that the more my tank matured the more the leathers stayed open all the time.
