I would like to buy or try Garf stuff because it sounds like they are a legitimate cause/whatever. Ive emailed several different email boxes on their website and I have yet to get a response. This was about a week ago! Does anyone have the inside on these people or delt with them before? What are your good/bad experience(s) with them :?: :?:

They like for you to call it in. I email them and they said to call. But the bad thing is they said they couldn't deliver in my area next day. I've never had a problem like that before with any other livestock I've order else where.

Go to our main forum listing and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and look thru The Garf Files.

IMO if you are buying from a company, organization, or someone on the street... you should not have to go through so much trouble or jump thru hoops just to speak to someone about an order you are about to make or questions you may have about something. But JMO

I've only had good experience with them. I called. I didn't try the email, but they were very helpfull on the phone and generous, even throwing in a few extra frags. The frags are small, but that is what I expected. After all, they are frags.

A few years back (3-4) I traded a show sized leather to them for a box of 12 frags and they were tiny. More like 1/4" even though they were colorful. Now that said the pictures on there site are so far photoshopped you won't get corals like you see on the site.

I ordered softy frags from them once (4 frags). The frags ranged from 1/4" to 1". The 1/4" frag had broken off it's rock and didn't make it longer than a week. In fact, it was so small that I couldn't positively ID it. None of the frags were well attached to their base rock. They threw in a couple of small freebee frags so I never pursued replacement.

On the other hand, I've ordered snails and crabs from them a couple of times prior to the frag incident and was happy each time with those orders.

Regarding shipping, they used to use DHL for shipping (not certain whether they still do or not). DHL promised overnight service to my area but consistantly did not deliver until the third day. When confronted about this, one of the DHL customer service reps. confided in me that even though they list overnight service to my area due to routing issues and the use of a second, outsourced delivery service they will almost never make next day delivery.

HTH.

I went in with a buddy on the 10 softies deal, I have to say there were good points and bad. I called and completed the order within 15 minutes. Everything was very well packed and 9 of the 10 frags arrived attached. One of the leathers was not. One of the mat polyps died way back and so did one of the zoos. They are just now starting to grow 4 months later, but several (anthelia and brairium) have taken off and I've fragged 2-3 more about the size of what garf sent.

So IMHO its a grab bag... I got a few corals I've never seen in the LFS, but it was expensive (but no more than 10 small frags 'round here). This is not for someone who expects these frags to be ready for a show tank right away, but I would suggest if you like fraggin' corals (or want to learn) this is a great way to get started.

I've got some pictures of what I got, and what they look like 4 months later that I'll try to post later this weekend.

If given the choice between a small frag or a developed coral, I always choosed the small frag. I just prefer to see a coral grow and develop in my possesion. It just feels rewarding and suggests that I'm doing things right. A lot of my friends don't feel this way though, but that's just me, I guess.

The price GARF sell them I can get them same or cheaper at LFS, and much larger, allowing me to make at least 5 - "GARF frag size".

I ordered with them once in the beginning days, and never went back to them again.

(I don't even want to comment on the color issue............)

If your looking for frag packages jeffs exoctics does a 9 for 99 deal although I have never used them alot of people here like them.

Otherwise for some amazing SPS try Tubs exotic frags, or Dr. Mac and sons who has great customer service and nice sizes but is expensive.

FWIW, Jeff does not sell frags. They are whole specimens in the 9 for $99 deal.
