any cleaning critters in the tank?

Snails and a tang should make quick work of it (unless its bryopsis)

Yes cleaning critters, tank is WAY too small for a tang of any kind. SKimmer yes, have been pretty happy with the Prizm, i get lots of crap out. Its a 29 gallon tank. I dont use RO water, I should, if i did would that certainly clean it up? I would probably get the Tpa Water FIlter from AP, would that do the job? Thnx! :D

Yes, using some kind of purified water would almost certainly help, I have heard that those tap water purifiers work well for people with small tanks.

If you are using regular tap water and having hair algae, that is the first thing I would blame.

hair algae is tough stuff.

i didn't give it the respect it deserves until i set up my present tank.
i still have some isolated patches of the stuff and i have been up and running for well over six months now.
i fed nothing for months and blasted circulation through the tank.
as my LR cured the algae simply went from hair to bryopsis and back to hair again for months.
then a few months ago i put a euro-reef in the sump and soon after the hair was subsiding.
it could be coincedental as the algae was bound to die off sooner or later for lack of nutrient but i am convinced the skimmer sped the process up. especially looking at the skimate that came out of the water directly following it's addition.

k thanks- I just ahve to remeber to pick up the filter. I keep waiting for a reason i dont know. Hopefully this works, i've been chasing new pieces of equipment hopin git will get rid of it. In a way the new filter, skimmer, and lights helped, but it's still there. I just hope to get rid of this s**t! :D

I would use RO water and try phosphate remover. If after a couple of weeks it's still growing, I'd get a more powerful skimmer, or UV. However, I feel RO water and phosphate remover would help a lot.
