My black (chocolate) clowns have been spawing. I was curious to know if anyone out there is having this luck? I have been taking the eggs to tropicorium and they have been hatching them. So far their doing great.
He said $10 plus shipping. Of course raising clownfish isn't exactly a simple endeavour. It would involve a dedicated tank for the fry and the acquisition of special live foods.
The proper name of those clowns is Amphiprion ocellaris, black strain. They are being bred fairly regularly by a number of large wholesalers. It is fairly common for them to spawn in captivity.
The Reefcentral Clown and Anemones forum has a great deal of information on suitable anemones and breeding. Many feel that captive-bred clowns will host in just about anything. They are fairly likely to host in something such as a frogspawn or xenia, which are easier to keep than anemones (particularly sebae anemones).
