I just got this moon light for my 150 in progress and it is really bright. I cant see leaving it on overnight every night. How can I controll this to make it more natural? How long is it recommended to keep it on?

TIA

Moonlighting is all subjective. I'm not exactly sure how to control the LED on this one, but there should be some way to do it. Have you checked with PFO? I would think they'd have some sort of controller for it.

Electronic might have changed since I worked on it years ago, but LED typically have a narrow input specification, so you should only turn it on and off, and not dim it. How about a regular timer that turn the moonlight on and off at specific time?

Ah good point. It may be that you can only turn it on or off. I'm wondering how its getting its power. Does it have its own separate power supply that you plug into the wall that's independent of the PFO ballast or is it wired right into the connector on the ballast?

I think it got its own PS. Just a regular LED lamp with a PFO label on it, not related to the MH ballast that it makes.

Maybe you could put some sort of diffuser/filter in front of it. e.g. colored lens or colored cellophane paper.

LED usually has a pretty narrow spectral band, maybe except for the white LED that were made available recently. So using filter will be a counterproductive.

It is a seperate componet wired to an A/C adaptor.

It is very bright blue and illuminates half of the 150 as bright as a 55 watt PC would. I will post some pictures if you wish.

What would be a good time recommendation to run the timer. I run the halides to shut off at 11pm and the actinics off at midnight. The go on so the halides are on 12 hours and actinics 14 hours. So Maybe run the moonlight till 2am everynight????

Honestly I don't think it's all too critical. Go with whatever you think and tinker with the settings if you like.
