I've got a Rio 2100 running as my return. It has a problem. It's lame.
Everytime there I unplug ot turn off the pump it won't restart by itself. Instead, I have to detach the return pipe, dismantle the pump, remove the impella, replace the impella, turn the impella clockwise until it builds up resistance and then flicks over, re-attach the return and insert the plug. 70% of the time this works. If not, do it all again.
My guess was that because water and then air syphons from the tank into the sump when it is turned off, water travels through the pump and turns it backwards or air gets caught in it or something.
Sometimes I've closed the return line valve, then turned off the pump. To restart I've then flipped the valve open, water (but not air) syphons down, then before any air gets to the pump I plug it in.
Does any one else have any trouble like this? Any theories?
