I'm thinking of making my 200 gallon into a tang tank. What are the coolest tangs?
Red Sea sailfin (Zebrasoma desjardini, except I think that the ichthyologists (somebody check the spelling please) renamed it to Zebrasoma veliferum Red Sea variety). Not to sure about this as the fin ray structure of a Z. veliferum is different than Z. desjardini, as with the overall juvinile pattern and adult pattern. Possibly somebody's hypothesis, but I cannot forsee them being catagorized as the same species.
At any rate. Zebrasoma tangs make good schools. That is how they are found naturally. A school of yellow tangs (even though it is not one of my favorite tangs) is very striking. It just stands out from a distance.
My favorite is Acanthurus lineatus (clown tang).
If you have a few thousand gallons to play with a nice school of Naso vlamingi are pretty cool too.
