Just wondering if there is a site or article that reviews or talks about pros and cons of owning a Calcium Reactor??? I've been thinking of getting one and see that there are several to choose from. Even some interesting DYI options.

I've stayed away from them for some time due to the higher up front cost. Rather insane if I remember correctly due to the Reactor, CO2 regulator/needle valve and then media and CO2 bottle...

Anyway - thought I'd ask. I'm off to Google...

Thanks again.

I lucked out and was looking for one when the MACO DIY class came around. You may check on the courses offered this Fall at www.reefs.org/maco. The cost was alot cheaper and I really enjoyed building my own professional quality Calc Reactor.

Just some tips on CO2 equipment....

Check with online and local Brewing Supply places. They have regulators and tanks for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of Reef supply stores. These are usually the same if not better equipment. A CO2 regulator is a CO2 regulator if you catch my drift.

Spend the cash on a dual reg. It is great to know the level of your bottle and your psi going out.

Check locally and see who fills CO2 bottles. It may be an exchange program and you might end up losing your new shining bottle for a grungy one that would have been just a deposit vs a purchase.

Don't get caught up in the gadgets. The bubble counter on the reactor is sufficient, you don't need one on the valve or anywhere else. Same goes for solenoids. If the power goes out the co2 is just going to vent off. But, some take comfort in them so whatever pleases you.

Ebay is your friend.
