The corals in my tank are: leather mushroom, big green mushrooms, little purple mushrooms, little green mushrooms.

Every so often I see one of them all shriveled up. Deflated and stuff. An hour later it looks just fine. I was chilling with a friend playing some video games last night and I saw the mushroom leather do it. It moved very slow, but you could see it

1) retract the purty polyps
2) bleach of color
3) the mushroom "cup" first curled up (like night mode or i hate this mode)
4) then the cup opened again and flattened out
5) it appeared to wilt
6) the stalk retracted - it's usually like 2" tall but it scrunched up so the cup was barely above the reef rocks. total wiltage
7) it chilled out like this for no more than a minute or two.
8) the process then went backwards and it was happy as usual

I see the little mushrooms doing this all the time. What's it all about? Are they like, purging all the water in their system and soaking more up? It seems like that's what they might be doing. Maybe that's how corals pee. I should start reading some advanced boox. The newbie books I bought (good books, but ...) simply don't go into any detail.

Have you been feeding them high fiber foods? If so they are probably just.......I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

I have a Red Chili and Yellow Devils Finger that both do that on a regular basis. I too assumed they were "yawning" out their water on a regular basis to remove waste or something.

They are all healthy tho so I don't question their goofy behavior.

I have blue and green shrooms that do that. My finger and toadstool leathers also do wierd sh*t like closing up, shedding, and opening even bigger the next time around. I dunno either!!!!
