Yes, I know it stands for Fish Only With Live Rock, hehe. But what does it MEAN?

Does it mean no corals? No inverts? I just cruised hundreds of gallery shots of FOWLR tanks and probably 80% of them had crabs and hitchhikers and corals and anemones and basically looked just like any other reefy tank.

Besides that ... what's the purpose, the reason of having a FOWLR setup? I read a few things but it fails to explain WHY I would want one in the first place. Hey let's make a saltwater tank and then NOT put corals in it! High Five!

Hehe. Someone wanna clear that up for me? Thanks, I'm just curious.

Fish Only With Live Rock.

N/M.

Basically, its a "healthier" more natural way to keep a fish only tank. The amount of fish you can keep is usually higher as your not as concerned with a higher nitrate level than a lot of reef tanks hope for.

I have a FOWLR. I'd LOVE to have a full blown reef, but I can't afford lighting right now, so this is the point where I stay. I still however, have 2 shrimp, and 2 colonies of mushrooms. I'd get plenty more corals and call it a reef, but the lighting, 4 NO flourescents just won't allow that.

Ya know what cracks ME up, is when I get a query that starts off telling me that they've got a FOWLR (I call it "fouler") and they proceed to list arthropods, bivalves, soft corals, etc. as part of their stocking list. WTF happened to the "FO" part? ROFFLE!!
